Mrs. Patty Melton’s 7th graders have been busy with the study of wildlife in their classroom. Students had a first hand adventure with a storybook theme; The Tortoise and the Hare just happened to visit the science classroom by accident during the same week in October. Students are always bringing in items for extra credit; just so happens, one student brought in a snapping turtle and another brought in a long-eared pet rabbit during the same week. The students enjoyed the classroom visitors, later that day the turtle was released into the excess run-off pond and the rabbit returned back to her owner’s home in Pickett County. Sometimes, students have an opportunity to learn from nature instead of just looking at photos !
